🪄 Ford Focus 1.0 Ecoboost Engine Failure
A design defect allows coolant to leak into the cylinders of the 1.5L, 16L, and 2.0L EcoBoost engine. Low coolant levels can lead to the engine overheating, misfiring, or catching on fire. Early EcoBoost engines were also known to catch on fire, leading to a 2012 recall and "stop driving" order from Ford. The Escape is a hot mess.
They are fine as long as they’re properly maintained and you replace the wet belt on schedule. If you don’t, they have some problems. They have the reputation for two reasons. First is that because changing the wet belt is expensive, people didn’t bother. That, funnily enough, caused loads of engine failures.
The 2022 Ford Focus powertrain largely remains unchanged with the availability of a total of three engine setups with front-wheel drive. The 1.0-liter EcoBoost three-cylinder is the base engine

A couple of high profile recalls for EcoBoost cars issued in 2018 may sound alarm bells, but the truth is the faults were not specifically related to the EcoBoost tech. A Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost recall referred to a nylon pipe potentially overheating in the cooling system, while a potentially more serious fault in the cylinder head of 1.6
Well after the hundreds and hundreds of posts of owners with total failure of the 1.0 Ecoboost engines mainly in Fiesta's and Focus, it now seems late to the party but making a sudden dash to catch up is the 1.5 Ecoboost in the Kuga. I notice that Ford don't seem so keen to put the Ecoboom Ecoboost badge on there vehicles anymore.
that sound after engine shutdown is probably the cooling fan which runs for a few seconds after engine shutdown. if it was the turbo. its probably now toast. there could be numerous others causes for the lack of power could be blocked fuel filter, faulty fuel pump carbon buildup or something else entirely. Performing an engine flush usually results in either replacing the wetbelts or engine damage. The 1.0 ECOboost has a variable ratio oil pump that is controlled by oil pressure and a solenoid. If the solenoid becomes clogged the variable part of the oil pump will no longer work.
2018 Focus 1.0L Ecoboost sudden oil pump failure. New to the forum. Trying to get an idea whether the oil pump failure is really common or not. I had 43,000 miles on my Focus when the engine light and oil light came on and the engine lost power and began knocking and idling rough. A Ford technician stated that this is due to the belt shredding.
On 12/21/2021 at 6:15 PM, butter said: coolat temp is 192. I assume that is 192 degrees Fahrenheit or you have bigger problems than just a hot engine. Replace the the temperature sensor. The DTC P1299 will cause the engine to go in to limp mode as it thinks the engine is over heating. Quote.
Premature wetbelt failure on a 1.0 ECOboost is not uncommon at all. This can have several causes: * Incorrect engine oil. * Not respecting the service intervals. The Ford WSS-M2C948-B engine oil is known to deteriorate quite fast (and can even form a sludge). Especially when the car is often used for short distances or in case of low annual

This is a common problem of the 1.0 ECOboost that is usually caused by not respecting the prescribed oil change intervals or not respecting the prescribed oil specifications. Based on all other symptoms there is a huge chance that the engine already suffered from serious engine damage and may well be beyond repair.
Hello all, this is a bit of a 'what would you do' question. My sister in law has a Fiesta 1.0 Ecoboost, 35k miles, 15 plate I think. Lately she's been getting low oil pressure light and a rattle
