🔮 E46 Mass Air Flow Sensor Symptoms
Too much oil on the filter. MAF is least of your problems, you can ruin the transmission as well. GM has a service bulletin voiding all warranty & repairs originating from "oil bath filters" as they call them. # 04-07-30-013. Put the original filter box and OEM filter back in it, problem solved.
The BMW E46 digital engine management (DME) systems use a hot-film mass airflow sensor, installed between the air filter housing and the intake manifold, to monitor air flow into the engine intake. Inside the sensor, there is a thin metal film, which is maintained at a constant temperature via electrical current from the ECM.
The most common signs of bad mass air flow sensor (MAF) in VW Passat are loss of power or slow acceleration, engine hesitation or jerking during acceleration, erratic idling, misfires, poor exhaust emission values and sometimes black smoke comes out of the tailpipe. The mass air flow sensor is part of the engine’s intake system and is located
BMW Mass Air Sensor & Air Flow Meters. We sell OEM air mass sensors, air flow meters, and HFMs (Hot Film Meter) for many BMWs. When the mass air sensor is bad you will notice your engine running out of tune. Your fuel mileage will suffer, throttle response will be poor, and you will notice a lack of power. There should be a Check Engine Light

From OBD Fusion: P0102 - Mass Air Flow (MAF) Circuit Low Input. From (PASoft) BMWScan 140: DME 08[008] Air mass flow sensor signal short circuit to negative or open circuit. EGS 92[146] CAN Moment interface. I then used OBD Fusion to read the live MAF data (thanks for that idea jfoj) - it was zero regardless of engine speed.
The Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor is placed in the stream of intake air. It measures the intake flow rate by measuring a part of the entire intake flow. It consists of a hot film that is supplied with electric current from the Engine Control Module (ECM). The temperature of the hot film is controlled by the ECM a certain amount.
rmank. Should be easy. You can get a specialized MAF cleaner at an autoparts store, it just comes in a spray can like brake cleaner. Just take off and disconnect the MAF and use the spray to clean it. Spray a few times, let it dry, repeat, especially if you have an oiled air filter. Only takes around 5-10min.
A bad mass airflow sensor can leave your Toyota Sequoia’s engine running rough, or even inoperable. A MAF sensor measures the density of the air entering the intake manifold. It passes this information onto your Sequoia’s ECU. The ECU uses this information along with other sensor data to control the amount of fuel that enters the combustion
The car has been running perfectly, and fuel mileage has been consistent. Dealership diagnosed a mass airflow sensor fault. They want to replace it for $645. Two months ago the car had the intake system dismantled for carbon-buildup walnut shell blasting. Could a sensor failure be somehow related to the carbon buildup, or its repair two months ago?
Since the MAF sensor is responsible for measuring air flow into the engine, they have a lot of air passing through them. In fact, more than 9000 liters of air can flow through the engine for every liter of fuel used. That’s a lot of air! And with that comes the potential for a lot of contamination. Dust, dirt and other debris can all get into
A wire stretched across the sensor’s flow tube is heated to 3,920° F (2,000° C). The amount of electrical power required to keep this wire at 3,920° is translated into a DC-voltage signal return that rises proportionately with engine speed (see Figures 1 and 2 , which show voltage readings at 772 rpm and 1,700 rpm, respectively) and is
Here are 10 common symptoms of a faulty Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor: Engine stalling: A faulty MAF sensor causes the engine to stall or die when idling or coming to a stop. Hesitation during acceleration: A faulty MAF sensor causes the engine to hesitate when accelerating. Rough idling: A malfunctioning MAF sensor can cause the engine to run
Symptoms of a bad mass air flow sensor are hesitation, surging, poor fuel economy, poor performance, black smoke, and difficulty starting the engine. Fault codes indicating misfires, and rich or lean air/fuel mixture are also common. And in some cases, the engine will often stall, and you will see a check engine light.
